Web browsers r not wowsers!

I use a web browser every day at work and at home and yet I have never given a thought as to what it is or how it does what it does . . it was just there. I took my web browser for granted basically. I made the switch a while ago to Google Chrome and we have been very happy together, Google Chrome is fast, organized, looks funky (very important!), plays well with iGoogle and I love the way it thumnails my recent browsing. However . . Firefox has heaps of add-ons that would be very useful to me . . in particular the Stumlbeupon feature. How cool . . Firefox will get to know me and then go out into cyberspace out hunt out sites and information that matches my interests! What a great little friend. So, move over Google Chrome, FireFox is making a reappearance on my home pc. Who will win my defaulted heart? Stay tuned. . .

Mashup Monday

I have spent the last hour exploring plum mad dog mean mashups! And they r mean! Very clever and cool. i loved the Portwiture but failed the test (twit that i am!) to mashit my very own portwiture to my blog. Then I discovered Gimme Shiny . . another test failed as you can see I have added something that sounds quite awful but is harmless getsatisfaction.com. To clear my name this is the help page of Gimme Shiny - a mashup of images from Flickr and deviantART. Very cool pics in a slideshow. I'll keep working on it.
IRONY: Y is it that almost every vodcast demostrating new and emerging technologies uses old technology (such as paper, pen and whiteboard!) 2 explain it's creation and application? Hmmm . . the ulttimate mashup I suppose!

Licence2testdrivePartB

Online tools and applications - sounds exciting doesn't it? well actually, when we finally had a small win with the pc's at work and could view the videos (no sound mind you!) some of the applications looked great. Like the Geogreetings - love that! And I like GoogleDocs - very easy to use and share. I am playing with circ rosters in GoogleDocs at the moment to see if this will make viewing, sharing and editing rosters faster and maybe even fun (ok - it's all going to my head now!).

Clouded

Ok the link will help you see the picture. http://library.adelaide.edu.au/local/dev/deweycloud.html

Is that a Dewey Cloud?

I thought I would leave this little cloud from Adelaide Library here for you all to check out (all who?). I think tagging like this is very cool and visually looks exciting, inviting you to discover what is behind those tags. However, whilst I think it works well for general browsing and discovery, finding a specific tag would burst my cloud quite quickly. Grouping the cloud into smaller clouds (100's, 200's, or 100-300's) would improve the functionality and asethics. What do you see in the clouds?

Jumping back into Web 2.0

Hi
I'm back into the web ... this time with my current subject I'm studying at uni Information Technology in Libraries. With License2tetsdrive Part 1 behind me, I certainly feel more confident reading through the modules as I recognise terms and web applications that I have tried recently ... so thanks SLQ! I am taking back my blog and will leave here a trail of new web discoveries, words of wisdom on information technology and cool stuff that I find. So grab your stack hat in case it's gets bumpy and off we gooooooooooo...

Not the end of the 2.0 World

We completed Part 1 and have learnt alot - I even remember most of it (bonus!). We were having so much fun, I think we should continue .... so if anyone wants to do more social networking, photo sharing, wikis, rss feeds etc let me know and we'll get together. It would be a shame for our blogs to gather cobwebs ... we could even just spend some time checking out everyone's blogs!.

Reflection in the cloud

Success at last. With alot of help from Dancing Girl, you can see my little cloud, I can twitter with my friends ... all three of you .... quality not quantity that's the important thing. The other important thing is persistence, each week we blog it out together. Seriously though I feel this has been the most valuable OPAL training I have participated in, mostly due to the delivery style and format of the learning. The flexibility of the sessions and ease of access to the various sites (access was easy, navigation? ... well - maybe the problem was my driving ..... nah!). The learning has been interesting, fun, educational (naturally), sometimes frustrating, but always engaging, keeping myself and the Noosa crew interested and online. And I am fairly confident (oh dear did my fingers type that) that I can assist others in the community to create a blog to keep in touch and to network - though I make no flickr promises. Fortunately I know a few flickr experts.

Arrragh.... ithere's a bad taste to my blog

Ok. I shall not give in. I have these awesome tasty tags in my del.icio.us account just waiting for me to work out how to connect the two .... you may note that I have del.icio.us tagline on my blog (hint. go to blog settings, add a gadget, choose javascript). I have had great fun adding my tags, love love love my cloud ..... so...small. Arragh my belly is rumbling.. time for tea. Tomorrow is another Library 2.0 day, Scarlett.

where oh where can Week six be?

The license2testdrive fans turned up this morning eager to discover this weeks theme - but alas we are disappointed. No Week Six has been loaded! So we revisited wikis, rss feeds and flickr! So watch this space....

Waving the white flag!

I surrender! SOS. I now have two RSS feed accounts: bloglines and google reader. Great. How do i make these feeds show up on my blog? not my bloglines blog or my google reader blog - wheelgirl's blog! I have now spent 90 minutes on this. Maybe the RSS feeds are not meant for my blog? Surely not ..... what would be the point? It is very frustrating navigating in and out of all the different accounts to access different communication technologies. Though - is it more likely that you (as you people out there) would in fact only use ONE of these technologies not all of them all at once. My arm is hurting from the vigorous flag waving!
And don't even get me started on twitter .... there is no-one in twitter but me I'm sure......but maybe I'm quacking up. Quack quack.

Emerging grumble

Ok - I just need to get this out of my system. Why....why....why? is it that each new technology we have been playing with require yet ANOTHER account, password & username?

I have a Flickr account with it's own username & password; a twitter account; a gmail account required for blogger; a yahoo account required for bloglines and a google reader account............. is it any wonder I wheelie don't know who i am!
Sigh........hmmmmmm......... feel better now......thanks for reading!

Silly twit

Silly me.... I think my twitter name is...either wheelgirl or wheeliemel. Why do i not know? Because i cannot find me again.

Sleepless twittering

I have sent my twitter out into the social networking world ....... and now I will await a responding twitter. Not quite sure who from ....... or how I will know as I wheely did not want to give my mob though I bravely added my blog URL ..... tomorrow is another day Scarlet!

wikis r me

I love wikis..... a wiki is simple and makes sense...... no fuss and fanfare. Wookieepedia was particularly educational (and who can resisit a wookie?) and the discussion posts very entertaining at 11pm on a Saturday night ... truly (the repair droids are editing havoc apparantly)! Some of the wikis didn't even look like wikis - though I don't mind the blockish good looks of wikipedia etc - no distractions or waiting time for cosmetic loading. My only gripe would be the need for the dreaded login and access required for member-only wikis - gripe over. I wheely like wikis!

giving the flickr

I have failed flickr ...... don't know where I've gone wrong. I found a photo that I can copy and paste it's link into my post using the image button, it tells me it's done..... but I don't know. Maybe I am sending the photo somewhere? Do you have my photo? Wheely not cool dude.

However, I shall continue as I am way behind. Luckily I feel I will do better with the wiki - I use a wiki @ work and a wiki @ uni. Wiki on .............

Well Watson?

Hmmm ....... something is amiss dear Watson! The URL to the photo I found and supposedly published just a few minutes ago is not where it should be. Try again....

wheel art

Finally ...... made a Flikr account, found a wheel cool photo. This required a bit of backwards and forwards, not as simple as it first appeared to be, in and out of screens etc.

Finders Keepers

Major ITC breakthrough ....... I found my blog. And .... I worked out how to follow a blog.....but wait there's more........ I invited a friend to join my blog...whoa wheelgirl whoa! Hmmm is it ITC or ICT? ....... maybe I need a vowel which brings me to the hangman gadget I added. I suspect hangman of adding extra lines and dropping a vowel. Villainous misuse of the alphabet ..... sitting in the corner of my blog, letter dropping with a smug smile. We shall cross words again Hangman(LOL).

Question to the world ....
Will I ever find this blog again?

Going forward & dodging the rocks

Well here I am (again!) trying the blog scene ...... yes....... I admit it ........ I have created and abandoned many blogs ......there was bikegirl...girlspoke (ha ha?)....mtbgrl....grider and these are only the ones I can remember! Wheelgirl is here for the long ride.

So ... clearly I like to ride.

Why?

  • I love the sense of achievement I get from travelling from point A to B, harnessing my own movement and motivation.

  • I love the freedom - I can follow any path I find or make my own (wheel explorer).

  • I love the movement - always forward, the smooth tika tika tika of the chain running it's ring, slogging it out slow & hard, or fast & furious, always going forward.

Unless there's a rock .... in the middle of the track .... I could go left or could go right........ too late .... rock says STOP and I fall off ..... blood & bad words. Hmmm, my goal is keep going forward and dodge the rocks! It's simple Pedal Philosophy really.
